Fabrication of Titanium Coatings for Medical Device Applications

Titanium is widely used for medical purposes. It related to bone repair because of its favorable mechanical properties and biocompatible ability osseointegrate in host tissue. A good lasting connection the implant with tissue possible when there are sufficient conditions grow into pores material, therefore use a porous titanium coating may be helpful solving this problem. In paper, shrouded plasma spray produce low oxide containing coatings lower cost as very reactive metal at high temperatures. solid conical shroud was designed spray. The were assessed by scanning electron microscopy energy dispersive X-ray spectroscopy. An analysis microstructure had been carried out. results showed that attachment played an important role protecting particles flight during process spraying. enhanced moderate porosity sprayed observed. reduction air entrainment resulted heating particles. plasma-sprayed mainly composed α-Ti quantity TiO.
